  • Dr. William E Condon , VMD

Dr. Condon established Sakonnet Veterinary Hospital in 1972 with his classmate Dr. Kenneth Rix. Today, he is known for his straight-forward approach when dealing with both pets and their owners. Dr. Condon has developed a special interest in soft-tissue surgery and orthopedic surgery. He finds it is particularly satisfying to help both pets and their owners overcome a challenging medical situation.

Dr. Condon is a past president of the Rhode Island Veterinary Medicine Association and remains abreast of important developments for veterinarians. He lives in Portsmouth with his wife of 40 years as well as their Border Terrier named Harnish and domestic long-hair cat named Moo. As a father of four children, he was active in many community organizations including the Portsmouth School Committee and local Little League. His passions outside the veterinary world include sea kayaking, photography and travel.

  • Dr. Kenneth E Rix , VMD

Dr. Kenneth Rix founded Sakonnet Veterinary Hospital with Dr. William Condon in 1972. Together, they pursued a vision to provide quality medical and surgical care for pets in a compassionate environment. Dr. Rix combines his talents with his five veterinary colleagues to provide the best possible advice, preventative care, and treatment for your pets.

Dr. Rix is a past president of the Rhode Island Veterinary Medical Association and the New England Veterinary Medical Association. He has a special interest in internal medicine, endocrinology and dermatology.

Outside of the practice, Dr. Rix is an avid gardener. In fact, he often provides the reception area of the hospital with bouquets of flowers from his garden. He also enjoys skiing, woodworking and travel. Dr. Rix lives in Little Compton with his wife and family. He has two pets, a Terrier mix named Tess and a cat named Gino.

  • Dr. Maria G Reinhardt , VMD

Dr. Maria Reinhardt joined our staff in 1999 after running her own successful veterinary practice in New Jersey for fifteen years.  She is known for her holistic approach, often supplementing traditional treatment with alternative modalities of care such as herbal and homeopathic remedies. Over the years, she has also developed a special interest in the medical and surgical treatment of ears.

Dr. Reinhardt was born in the Azores and speaks Portuguese fluently. Today, she is a resident of Bristol, Rhode Island, where she lives with her two children, Elizabeth and Matthew, and three dogs, a Standard Poodle named Meme, a Bichon named Chloe and a mixed breed named Jamie. Dr. Reinhardt particularly enjoys the cats she sees at work because her children's allergies rule out cats at home.

Outside the office, she enjoys gardening, reading, travel and yoga.

  • Peter B Belinsky , VMD

Dr. Peter Belinsky attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with William Condon and Kenneth Rix.  In 2005, he joined our staff after practicing in Providence for 35 years with his dad.

Dr. Belinsky is also the Assistant Public Health Veterinarian in Rhode Island, a position he has held for nine years. He is responsible for the health of animals coming in and out of the state; monitoring infectious diseases; and overseeing animal shelters, pet stores and kennels. Dr. Belinsky enjoys the diversity of his work, knowing he is making a contribution to animal health at both the state level and one-on-one.

A long-time resident of Edgewood, he is an avid reader and collector of books, especially those focused on art and the Revolutionary War. He is currently spearheading an initiative to identify and share information on offenders involved in animal abuse, child abuse and interpersonal violence.

  • Craig L. Hopkins , VMD

Dr. Hopkins grew up in New Hampshire and graduated from Bowdoin College in 1995.  He then worked on a game preserve in Africa, conducted genetic research at Harvard Institute of Medicine, worked for Scripps Research Institute, and helped start a medical devices company.

Dr. Hopkins graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2004 and has since worked at the Veterinary Specialty Center of Delaware and at Veterinary Surgical and Diagnostic Specialists in New Jersey.  He is a welcome addition to the Sakonnet Veterinary Hospital staff.
